We are in Rome...or rather we are going to be later this morning. We are docked outside of Rome and we will have 1 1/2 hour drive to get there.
FYI: Temperature is: 63°F/17°C 🌤...or so we thought.
Turned out that the 1 1/2 hour drive made a difference in our weather.
We got rained on. ☔☔ Boo!!
Didn't matter. We bought umbrellas and carried on.
Our excursion is called "Rome On Your Own" and we leave at 8:00 AM and it is a 10-hour excursion.
When we arrive, Barry & I head towards Via del Corso. On our way, we cross a courtyard and there is a group of men and women singing an Italian opera (I think it's songs from The Barber of Seville). It sounded so wonderful and it just hits me as so real and so Italian...happy tears again!
So, our first stop is for coffee. We have a cappuccino & an Americano and it was delicious...must be because we're in Rome and everything is fabulous here! When we leave the café, we walk about 10 steps and we see a Pandora store...."the world is unfolding as it should"... that is our next stop. I get my charm for Rome, Italy and we are off again. It is raining by now, but very lightly.
We find a quaint little bistro and decide to stop for an early lunch.
We are giddy with excitement and must have a glass of Prosecco ... because it's Rome! (Have you figured out yet that we LOVE Rome?)
Pizza for lunch...what else.

This is the street we started on. Really good shopping.

Yup...that's Prosecco!!

And a little red wine with our pizza.
We are heading for the Spanish Steps. Barry has to climb them again, like he did in 2009 when we were in Rome with Paula & Claudio DeLorenzi.

Moretti -- very good
More wandering and we found a fabulous blue leather jacket for Barry. It was in a store window and we went in to check it out for size and price. Good news -- they had Barry's size. Bad news -- it cost €5000...yikes! No, thank you.
We arrive at our meeting place for the bus. We're about an hour early so we go to a nearby café and order a drink. Barry gets a Limoncello and I ordered an Aperol Spritz. When the waitress brought our drinks she also brought all kinds of "nibbley" food. OMG!
The olives were delicious.
John, Jackie & Colleen join us and they all have Limoncello.
And, as if we haven't eaten enough, John & I decide we have to have some gelato...Banana gelato for me and John got Pistachio. Wonderful.
We shared with everyone.
On the bus trip back to the ship, John opened a bottle of red wine and passed little glasses of it around. I declined...I could not get one more thing down my neck.
There was a lot of joking and laughter on the trip back which made the hour and a half go by very quickly.
Off the bus and on the ship...we leave Rome at 7:00 PM.
ARRIVEDERCI, ROMA!
Quiet night.
We skipped dinner.....hmmmmm! I wonder why we weren't hungry?
We are in Monte Carlo, Monaco tomorrow.

YEAH!!! Spanish Steps....loved the picture.
ReplyDeleteHope there was a taxi waiting at the top.
Wish we had been there with you.
Hugs to you both,
Paula & Claudio
