JAN. 23rd -- RAIATEA, FRENCH POLYNESIA

It is windy in Raiatea today so the boat is not docking -- we are going to be tendered across.
Our tour is called "Sacred Island by Le Truck".  We start out at about 9:00 AM.
The island is small and our tour is 3-hours long.  Not sure what we are going to see!!

Our tour guide, Daimar, is a character.  He arrives at the port in full Polynesian dress.  He says he is 81-years old, has always lived on the island and has never worked!  All-righty then.

Pretty island

There really wasn't a lot to see on the island, however he took us to a sacred burial ground and along the way we heard a lot of history about the island, his idiosyncrasies (he doesn't like the Chinese!!) and stories of his life and the way things used to be.  When we got to the sacred grounds of past Kings being buried there, etc., he said a pray for us.  OK, that was a little different but authentic.

Doing a "prayer" for us

We got back to the pier at 12:00 noon and got on the tender to go back to the ship.  We sat beside 2 Canadians we met at the original "Meet & Greet" -- Gary & Anna -- and caught up with them on our way back.  They leave the boat tomorrow in Papeete (Tahiti).

Lunch at the Compass Rose -- had a glass of champagne, just because.

Quiet afternoon.
